Dog Car Seat for 2 Dogs: Can Two Dogs Share One Seat?
Share
Many owners travel with two dogs, and most dog car seats are built for one. So, can two dogs share one dog car seat?
Two small or medium dogs: yes, in the XL
Our XL seat is wide enough for two small or medium dogs travelling side by side: two French Bulldogs, two Dachshunds, a Jack Russell and a Pug. Both dogs ride on the same raised, padded bed and can see out of the window.
Two large dogs: one seat each
If both dogs are large, give each its own seat. Two big dogs on one seat will crowd each other, and a crowded dog stays standing instead of settling down.
How to choose
- Add the weight of both dogs only if they are small. If they would not both lie comfortably on a single bed, choose two seats.
- Dogs that like to touch and sleep together do well on one seat. Dogs that squabble need separate spaces.
- Always attach each dog's harness clip to a harness, never to a collar.
Where it goes
On the back seat. Never put a dog seat on the front passenger seat: an active airbag is dangerous for a dog, exactly as for a child.
TheDogCarSeat is a comfort and containment product, not a crash-tested restraint system.
